National Academy Welcomes New Members

WASHINGTON, D.C.--The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) elected 60 new members and 15 foreign associates today at its 137th annual meeting. Including the newly elected, the academy comprises 1843 active members and 320 foreign associates.

"Apart from prizes, membership in the academy is probably the highest recognition that American scientists can receive from Americans," says R. Stephen Berry, NAS home secretary and a physical chemist at the University of Chicago.
