The Department of Health and Human Services today announced $1 billion in awards to construct and upgrade biomedical research labs and facilities. The 146 grants range in size from $115,000 to $15 million and go to facilities in 44 states. The money is part of the $10.4 billion that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) received in last year's stimulus package. (NIH awarded most of the stimulus money last year as 2-year research grants.)
