Greg is the San Francisco, California, news correspondent for Science. He focuses on neuroscience and other areas of biological, behavioral, and social science. As a 2005 Rosalynn Carter Fellow for Mental Health Journalism, he traveled to Sri Lanka, India, and Hong Kong to report a series of articles on the challenges of treating mental illness in developing countries.

After majoring in zoology at Duke University, Greg earned a Ph.D. in neuroscience at Stanford University before realizing he couldn't spend the rest of his life in a lab. After completing the science writing program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and interning at New Scientist magazine in London, Greg joined the Science news staff in 2002.
