Lauren is a staff reporter and editor of the magazine's recently revamped News of the Week section. She has written on topics including the race to synthesize new elements and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Lauren has bachelor's degrees in physics and creative writing from the University of Southern California, and spent 2 years in Edinburgh, first as a student and then as a waitress in a café frequented by legendary particle physicist Peter Higgs. She first wrote about science as an intern at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, which she rates as a better California attraction than Disneyland.
