Initiative Aims to Minister to Mexico's Genetic Heritage

Until recently, most large-scale genome mapping initiatives focused on people of European descent, leaving Latin Americans and other populations underserved by new genomic tools. In the hopes of closing that gap, Mexican telecommunications magnate Carlos Slim has donated $74 million to fund the second phase of the Slim Initiative for Genomic Medicine in the Americas.
