For Researchers, IPCC Leaves a Deep Impression

Last week's release of the first part of fifth report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) drew headlines, and some debate about whether policymakers will listen. But there's little doubt that the IPCC process has a huge influence among the thousands of researchers involved in climate science. The effort has helped catalyze new research, swallow years of supercomputing time, and prompt a deluge of submissions to scientific journals. But some say the process needs to be revamped to be less onerous.
