Honored for their lifelong contributions to medical sciences, 60 scientists and health professionals were elected today to the Institute of Medicine (IOM). The nonprofit institute convenes committees of IOM members and other experts to examine questions from the federal government and from Congress. Current IOM projects include a series of reports on dietary allowances, cardiovascular diseases in developing countries, and the medical use of marijuana.
The IOM also announced that five scientists were elected to senior membership and five were elected as foreign associates. A list of IOM members can be found at www.nas.edu .
