A biosecurity bill that would have transferred oversight of biocontainment labs to the Department of Homeland Security has stalled in committee following objections by some lawmakers who want Congress to wait for the conclusion of a number of federal studies on the topic.

California's stem cell institute, California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, gave out $230 million in grants to move therapies from the laboratory to the clinic within 4 years.
