More Legal Wrangling in Incan Treasures Fight
Haggling between Yale University and Peru over Inca artifacts held by the university continues to drag on. In 2005, the Peruvian government threatened to sue Yale for the return of some 5000 items excavated a century ago at Machu Picchu. The two parties reached an agreement in 2007 that included a return of many of the artifacts. Then in 2008, Peru changed its mind and sued Yale for return of all of them. Now Yale has asked the court to dismiss the case. University lawyers say that the state of Connecticut's statute of limitations puts a 3-year limit on the claims.
