MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA—Federal science minister Chris Evans today announced a rescue package of AUS $100 million to operate the Australian synchrotron over the next 4 years. In the new deal for the controversy-dogged facility, the lion's share (AUS $69 million) will come from the Australian Research Council's Special Research Initiatives and Australian universities. The other saviors are the governments of Victoria state (AUS $26 million) and New Zealand (AUS $5 million).
