UPDATE: California Tobacco Tax Loses

The Associated Press has projected that a California initiative to increase the tax on tobacco to pay for cancer research has failed by less than 1% of the vote. On 6 June, proponents of Proposition 29 had refused to concede, despite falling behind in initial returns, because of a large number of uncounted mail-in and provisional ballots.
