One of seven bonobos at the Iowa Primate Learning Sanctuary, aka the Great Ape Trust or Bonobo Hope, has died this week of a respiratory ailment, fueling concerns that the 230-acre campus in Des Moines is not being run properly. In September, a crisis erupted over the management and welfare of the apes, and the trust launched an internal investigation. According to The Des Moines Register, the trust's board meets next week to review the findings of the internal investigation and discuss whether the trust should move to a new location.
