The inaugural World Science Festival kicked off this week in New York City. At events set up throughout the city, leading researchers, educators, policymakers, and artists are discussing the impact of science on everyday life.

Science has dispatched two reporters to the scene. They'll be blogging regularly as they attend various events, speak to attendees, and pontificate on the festival as a whole. In our first entry, a panel of scientists debates the question: "Is it morally wrong for someone in their own house to masturbate with a chicken?"

Be sure to check out our coverage here, and come back regularly for updates.
