Podcast: Neuroscience Takes the Stand

SAN DIEGO—Neuroscience got its day in court in a mock trial held here today at the meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (which publishes ScienceNOW). Real-life California Superior Court Judge Luis Rodriguez presided over a fictitious case in which the defense introduced brain scans as evidence that their client was incapable of premeditated murder. Both sides called neuroscientists as expert witnesses. Afterward, Science reporter Greg Miller chatted with "prosecuting attorney" Henry Greely, a Stanford University law professor, about the potential uses and misuses of neuroscience in the courtroom.
