WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Institute of Medicine (IOM), part of the U.S. national academies, announced 60 new members 16 October. The new members were chosen on the basis of their contributions to health, medicine, or related fields such as social work and public policy. The 55 new active members bring that total up to 613. The five new foreign associates join 51 current foreign members. Members are expected to serve on IOM committees and help write reports that guide the government on health and science issues.
