What sort of impressions do we take away from the Facebook profiles of people we’ve never met? According to the blog NeoAcademic, that depends on the number of friends the profile has. Researchers asked undergraduate students to rate four fake Facebook profiles on multiple characteristics, including attractiveness and trustworthiness, and found that profiles with lots of friends received higher ratings on physical and social attractiveness. The researchers say the findings, published in the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, support the claim that attraction and social acceptance are innately linked.
