Painful stitches may soon be a thing of the past. Researchers have developed a biodegradable spray-on matting that can seal surgical incisions and promote healing. The technique—described in ACS Macro Letters—is applied with an airbrush and has so far proved successful in sealing wounds in the lung, intestine, and liver of a pig. According to Gizmodo, the nontoxic mesh will completely degrade within a 42-day period.
