Highly educated men, New Scientist reports. Of the remaining 705 applicants who are hoping to voyage to the Red Planet with Mars One, 418 are male. And while just 32% of the U.S. population holds a 4-year degree, two-thirds of the “martian” hopefuls have one. By 2015, the hundreds of contenders will be narrowed down to several international teams made up of two men and two women. They’ll then begin intensive training for the journey that’s intended to establish a human settlement on the planet by 2025.
