Acne-Causing Bacteria Infects Grapevines
19 February 2014 4:30 pm
The bacterium that causes acne and teenage hysterics has been found in grapevines. In a paper published this week in Molecular Biology and Evolution, researchers report how Propionibacterium acnes has been transferred to the domesticated grapevine Vitis vinifera L by humans. They suspect the transfer may have occurred during the Neolithic period when the plant was being domesticated and so far don’t see any negative impacts from its presence, i.e., it does not cause grape pimples.
