Yellowstone Belching Helium Into the Sky
21 February 2014 2:45 pm
Yellowstone is releasing way more gas than researchers once thought. In fact, a Goodyear blimp could be inflated within a week’s time with all the helium spewing from its hot springs and steam vents, according to the Los Angeles Times. In a study published this week in Nature, geologists estimate that the national park is releasing about 60 tons of the gas per year; gas that was trapped in Earth’s crust for some 2 billion years.
