Your Brain Sees :-) as a Real Smile

The human brain now reacts to the smiley face emoticon, :-), in the same way it reacts to a real smiling human. Scientists at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, found that the same pattern of brain activity is generated when people see images of either a real person or emoticon smiling. The reaction is not a natural response, but culturally learned over time, so newborns do not respond to the emoticon in the same way, The Independent reports.
